What Is the Story About?
The second season of Loki, follows the events of the first season, one of the most wittiest and entertaining MCU shows (amongst a pile of unwatchable mess), where Sylvie (Loki’s alter ego in the meta-verse) kills the ‘He Who Remains’ aka variant of Kang-The Conquerer, that triggers the time-line branching and pushes Loki out of time door. Loki is now on a mission to find Sylvie, Miss Minutes & Ravonna with the help of Mobius, Hunter B-15 and OB.
Performances?
With just an episode out, Loki is still Tom Hiddleston’s one-man show. However, one cannot let go how his bromance with Mobius aka Owen Wilson is one of the strongest points of the show. Loki time-slips often in the first episode, clueless and trying to figure out a way to find Sylvie and cure the time-slipping. He is vulnerable, a man lost in love, endearing and funnier as ever.
Analysis
With Eric Martin serving as head writer and Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead leading the directing team, the second season of Loki starts off exactly from where the pilot season left off. The cliffhanger of season one gets a fluid continuum and the most adored MCU tv cast returns with a bang, once again.
Things have been looking blurry and bleak for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’ TV shows since the initial success runs and Loki Season 2 comes at the right point as a saviour of sorts to the universe with the last man standing – Tom Hiddleston as Loki.
The show reinstates and upholds the same anticipation, heart, fun and thrill of the pilot season and this time around, with wittier additions and an even more complicated storyline that converges the timelines, time, and universes.
The first episode of Loki Season 2 begins with Loki time-slipping (a term coined later), moves in and out of time and searching for a way to fix the glitch with the help of his dear friend Mobius and Hunter B-15. He meets OB, the TVA’s OG technician hoping to find a cure, i.e realm extractor.
Loki warns the TVA about the bigger threat that’s looming- The army of variants of ‘He Who Remains’ aka that of Kang-The Conquerer. He Who Remains is not shown in the show as yet, but Loki searches for answers, Sylvie, Miss Minutes and Ravonna Renslayer, who he believes is the one who conspired with ‘He Who Remains’ to set up the TVA and erase the memories of everyone.
Coming to what really works, the cast. Loki Season 2 has its old cast returning and a few new additions. All, exceptional and equally entertaining to watch. The storyline seems like a real breathe of fresh air in comparison to the hot misfires the MCU put out (including Secret Invasion) and we are certain to be in for a ride as yet.
To Conclude, if you’ve liked the pilot season you definitely should start watching the second season and you must binge season 1 if you want to know what’s going on in the sophomore season. Will Loki find Sylvie? Will Loki be able to fight the army of He Who Remains? Will Loki’s team of fan favourites make it through the season? Will the God Of Mischief make things even more complicated for the other MCU superheroes as the season ends? Let’s wait and watch.
Other Artists?
The first episode introduces Ke Huy Kuan as OB, a TVA technician who fixes everything and has a solution to almost every technical problem at the TVA. He is funny and his scenes with Mobius and Loki are a riot already despite the tension peaking.
Then there’s fan Favourite Owen Wilson’s Mobius, there’s nothing more to speak of the man who is such a charm. It’s yet to see what Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha Raw and Jonathan Majors would bring to the table in further episodes.
Music and Other Departments?
Loki Season 1 had some of the most tender writing in an MCU show ever and Loki season 2 pilot promises to have more fun, this time around. The CGI work is good and so is the score, so far.
