One Cut Two Cut Review – Half-Baked Satirical Comedy

What Is the Story About?

Gopi (Danish Sait) is an Arts and Crafts professor. On his first day at school, he faces the most unexpected situation. A group of four unique individuals take over his class students and create a hostage crisis.

What are the demands of the group? The movie’s basic plot is how Gopi struggles to save the students and what happens eventually.

Performances?

Danish Sait plays a teacher this time. He imbibes a meek-looking yet confident body language for the part. The change from his recent attempt is visible in that aspect. Otherwise, it is his typical act when it comes to the comic punches and other subtle entertainment bits.

Analysis

Vamshidhar Bhogaraju directs One Cut Two Cut. It is a satirical comedy on social media activism and the government, in parts.

The set-up of a government school for the whole narrative is good. It leads to a good message in the end, but it also helps establish the ‘government’ connection.

The humour is understated, even if it’s farcical, at times. In means there is extra pressure on the writing and performers to deliver the gags perfectly. In this aspect, One Cut Two Cut is a mixed bag that also gives a half-baked feeling in the end.

The various characters picked for the bunch, who come together to create hostage scenario, are instantly identifiable one’s if one follows the social media. The characterization of Pruthviraj, especially, is hilarious in this regard.

Some of the gags created with the characters are superb—for example, the group’s list of demands. A few more of such bits trickle now and then, but there is a lot of routine fun stuff at the same time. They are the meme kinds that one might have seen previously elsewhere.

Similarly, the actual media angle is also very routine and lacks sharpness. It makes the whole track boring. The perspective from the ‘government’ adds a thrill angle to the narrative. However, it hasn’t been utilized well.

As if the satirical comedy is not enough, there are spoof-like additional elements. The songs are planned that way, but it only adds to the length instead of bringing anything fresh or fun.

The ending is alright. After all the build-up, it looks too simple, convenient and gives an air of predictability. It doesn’t entirely change the impression on either side, though.

Overall, One Cut Two Cut is a satire with a few funny parts and many half-baked moments. Give it is a try if you like to have some fun but keep the expectations low.

Other Artists?

Prakash Belawadi shines as Pruthviraj. The character does the trick, and the actor takes care of the rest. Vineeth Kumar, Manosh Sen Gupta, Ashwin Hassan, Roopa Rayappa, Soundarya Nagarajan etc., are okay in roles that offer nothing much. Among this bunch, Soundarya has a very routine part playing a reporter.

Music and Other Departments?

The music by Nakul Abhyankar is alright. However, it acts as a speed breaker in the narrative. The background score goes well with the tone of the movie. Interestingly, Sahit Anand does the editing and also is the cinematographer for the flick. The editing is alright, but the cinematography could have been better. The writing by Vamshidhar Bhogaraju and Danish Sait is a mixed bag, as mentioned earlier. The comedy works, but in parts. However, barring those, the rest feel rushed and half baked.
