What Is the Story About?
Devraj (Nishanth) is a struggling wannabe director. Situations force Devraj to sell his script to a big-shot. The latter sets a location for the money exchange. Before Devraj makes it to the place, he is chased by a cop. Later a good also follows him.
Why are the cop and goon after Devraj? How a centuries-old pig statue is connected with all this forms the basic story of Pandrikku Nandri Solli.
Performances?
Nishant plays his part confidently with a tense look all through. The naturally helpless expression on his face also helps the cause. It goes well with the overall tone and genre of the film. And hence, there is nothing to complain about. A little bit more intensity would not harm, though.
Analysis
Bala Aran makes his directorial debut with Pandrikku Nandri Solli. It is a crime comedy movie with a dash of fantasy-adventure genre thrown in. The latter serves as the backdrop for the story.
The opening is not to be missed as it is the foundation for the entire movie. What follows next is a crime comedy narrative. The intro background is what makes intrigues us initially. However, what sustains the interest is the screenplay.
Although gimmicky, the screenplay helps in sustaining the narrative without inducing boredom. It overcomes the poor production values and cinematography. The clichés look a little fresh for the same reason.
The screenplay and the situations keep the fun going until the end. It is not rip-roaring laughs, but they are sure to bring a few chuckles along the way. The casting of the goon is good in this regard.
Besides the making, the biggest issue with the whole thing is childishness. A silly and goofiness are present throughout. The problem is not its presence; i is fine, but the way the other serious elements surround it. There is an uneven tone as a result.
Still, in spite of the problems, there is a ‘not-bad’ feeling at the end. And that is the takeaway from this small, low-key production.
Overall, Pandrikku Nandri Solli is a decent crime comedy. The amateurish making and low production values are a downer, but the content helps overcome them. If you like the genre and don’t mind the making and the cast, give it a try.
Other Artists?
The primary cast of Pandrikku Nandri Solli comprises small supporting cast members seen in bigger flicks. Here they get a chance to shine on their own. The lack of screen presence is evident with many of these mostly unknown faces. Only the actor playing the good stands out among the small crowd. M Chandrakumar playing the old guy is adequate.
Music and Other Departments?
The music by Suren Vikhash is alright. The song during the titles is decent, but others break the flow. The background score could have been better. The cinematography by Vignesh Selvarajan is poor. It is one aspect that is terrible, to say the least. The editing by Ram – Sathiesh is neat. The movie would have been a mess had this department failed in its work. The writing is par for the course for the terrain. It gets the job done.
