What Is the Story About?
The second season of the successful show ‘Save the Tigers’ picks up exactly from where the predecessor left off. Police detains Ghanta Ravi, Rahul and Vikram under the suspicious missing of actress Hamsalekha. However, things take a funny turn as the actress befriends the trip. With Rahul penning a story for Hamsalekha, Vikram working with Harika at his new workplace and Ghanta Ravi eyeing the corporator seat, the tigers and their partners get entangled in fun, drama and quite a lot more.
Performances?
One of the biggest assets of this comic caper is its cast. The main cast as well as the supporting cast gets the ball rolling hilariously with their mannerisms and dialogues even when the narrative takes a massive dip.
Specifically, Priyadarshi and Abhinav Gomatam steal the show. While the former handles the unserious funny moments and heartfelt emotional scenes with ease, the latter makes even the most unfunny moments land. While Chaitanya Krishna doesn’t get enough meat to prove his acting metal, his chemistry with Priyadarshi and Gomatam makes the show what it is.
The female leads Jordar Sujata, Pavani Gangireddy, and Deviyani Sharma fit their male counterparts like a T and adequately pulls the show. However, it’s Seerat Kapoor who adds a fresh breeze to the show. She should have been given more comedic parts to do. Mukku Avinash and Rohini makes the most out of the little screentime they get.
Analysis
Directed by Arun Kothapally and written by Mahi V Raghav and Pradeep Advaitham, Disney+Hotstar’s successful original web series Save the Tigers season 2 starts off exactly from where the first season ends. Audience’s favourite loser trio husbands get detained by police as famous actress Hamsalekha goes missing.
Even in the most serious situations, when the stakes are higher, the trio of Ghanta Ravi, Rahul and Vikram manage to entertain. This time with their hilarious encounter with the police. The wife-trio storms into the police station to save their husbands, but Hamsalekha returns and rescues the tigers. She befriends the trio and the narrative shifts back to the daily-routines of Ravi, Rahul and Vikram.
As the couples start drifting away from each other gradually, the wives attend counselling from a female counsellor to save their respective fiddling marriages. Rahul lands a deal from Hamsalekha to write a story for her, Ravi is offered a corporator seat from the party he works for and Vikram lands a new job.
Save the Tigers Season 2 drifts to similar waters : the loser husband trio and their funny tiffs with in-laws, the wife-trio’s desperate attempts to woo their husbands back as per the counsellor instructions and tertiary elements that enter their already chaotic lives to mess things up. The show is goofy as long as it doesn’t go on to a women-hating zone. But the moment it tries to borderline take digs at women-power, it reminds us of Luv Ranjan movies like Pyaar Ka Punchnama.
While the first three episodes of Save the Tigers Season 2 feel fresh and mostly hilarious to the bones, the rest of the show is repetitive with their regular complaints about marital life and wives. Most of the jokes and one-liners remind you of the previous season, and some of the dialogues like ‘Male periods’ are not just unfunny but offensive.
The dramatic turn the show takes by the end also doesn’t arch well enough for a satisfying conclusion despite the actors trying their best. The fourth episode that takes back to the equation of couples in Stone Age is simply a drag. Let alone being factually incorrect and loud, the episode in its entirety adds nothing to the show’s narrative.
However, Save the Tigers Season 2 is a family-friendly show like its predecessor. There are few real bone-chuckling moments and quite a lot loud and unfunny sequences. But, the actors inclusive of the supporting cast do a a job with whatever they’re given. Even when the transit from comedy to drama doesn’t translate well onscreen, the actors really try, especially Priyadarshi. The family scenes could totally be relatable to family audiences, so Save the Tigers Season 2 could make for a silly weekend binge with family.
Music and Other Departments?
The second season of Save The Tigers retains the predecessor’s levels when it comes to cinematography from S V Vishweshwar and Ajay Arasada’s music, while the editing department takes a huge dip after the first four episodes. The production value of the show also could have been far better considering how the previous season was a success.
