What Is the Story About?
The story takes off from the moment the first season stopped. Sakkarai is shocked to discover the murder of his mentor and lawyer Chellappa. It happens during Ashtakaali festival. Later investigations reveal that the murder has its connections to human trafficking. Also,8 girls confess to killing Chellappa and things become highly complex.
Meanwhile Nandini is also in the prison. Interestingly, Chellappa was fighting the case of Nandini.
Performances?
Kathir is a good actor. He knows which side of the bread to toast and it is very strongly reflected in the series. Aishwarya Rajesh is one of the finest actresses in the current Kollywood and you have every reason to believe this claim, however, her character is not among the most prominent in this season.
Other actors too have done a fair job.
Analysis
Do you remember the reason why you loved the first season?
Well, every reason you count has been messed up in this season.
I clearly remember watching this second season. When I finished the first episode, then it was like a great setting. I was highly impressed.
After finishing the second one, it was also very good because the setting was done in a really great manner. However, problems began with the third episode. It started crumbling and left us highly unsatisfied by the end of the season.
The fact that religion, folk culture, shock value, and many other things made the first season so successful. Here, it is a colossal miss. It could very easily be another crime thriller series outside the Suzhal world but it is absolutely no match to the previous season.
The second season of Suzhal The Vortex is not a very bad series. It is average at its best. But the downfall from the first season is unpardonable.
Other than Nadini and Sakkarai, every other major character is new to us. The first season boiled down from a broader complex to a family problem. The second one does the opposite.
The best part of the series is its subplot. The way it shows the character arc of the 8 girls and how they came to admit the murder is really well done.
Other than that nothing truly stands out. This series should never have been attached to the Suzhal The Vortex. The attempt to bank the success of the original killed it in a bad way.
Music and Other Departments?
No complaints from the music. It is an absolute match to the original. The way Sam CS has pulled off music in folk eerie settings is commendable.
The dialogue and cinematography are well done. They capture the eerie silence of the characters and the overall setting perfectly well through words and visuals.
