What Is the Story About?

Kevin’s Family becomes an overnight sensation on social media once his father decides to cash on the fact that their house is haunted by a ghost named Ernest. But when Kevin and Ernest get to the bottom of the mystery of Ernest’s past, they become targets of the CIA. Can Kevin help his ghost-friend Ernest uncover the mysteries of his past, and bring him the closure he needs? What will happen to Ernest then?

Performances?

We Have a Ghost a very charming and delightful cast. Jahi D’Allo Winston out of all is the scene stealer. His performance has a lot of innocence, heart and charm that most of the times the entire dumpster fire rests on his shoulders alone.

Analysis?

Written and directed by Christopher Landon, the script-writer of most paranormal activity films, We Have a Ghost is based on the 2017 short story “Ernest” by Geoff Manaugh. The supernatural Horror Comedy makes or breaks no grounds, and perhaps sticks too much by the outdated horror comedy formula.

We Have a Ghost follows the Presley family as they move into a dusty fixer-upper in Chicago seeking to start afresh. However, they soon come across a ghost in the attic named Ernest. Ernest makes several attempts to scare Kevin, a music obsessed teenager but eventually finds himself befriending him. Both Ernest and Kevin decide to dig into his past as Kevin promises to help him.

Proceedings take a stark turn when a video proving Ernest’s presence in the Presley family goes viral on social media, all due to the idiocy of Kevin’s father Frank. Apart from the social media glare, Kevin and Ernest now have to also deal with the CIA radar. How Kevin and his neighbor Joy manages to uncover Ernest’s past secrets and also give him the closure he deserves remains the rest of horror comedy’s crux plot.

We Have a Ghost has a premise that’s literally done and dusted. For a horror comedy to work, the primary necessity is one-liners that land. We Have a Ghost is not only outdated in its direction and writing, but also in its dialogue writing. Not to forget, how unforgivably long the film was. The saving grace of the film is it’s amazingly talented and charming star-cast.. a cast that’s probably too good for this dumpster fire of a film.

Nevertheless, We Have a Ghost is silly fun in parts and sometimes engaging. It’s neither good nor too bad. If you’re someone who digs horror comedy and is craving for a harmless silly film, may be try it out.

Other Artists?

We Have a Ghost has a charming cast in albeit an unserious film that doesn’t deserve them. Anthony Mackie is delight to watch onscreen and shares good chemistry with Winston. David Harbour is also so much fun even in the most silliest of scenes. Jennifer Coolidge‘s Judy Ramano manages to generate a chuckle in the minimal scenes she had.

Music and Other Departments?

Bear McCreary’s music does the heavy-lifting some of the times, and the other times does the bare minimum. Marc Spicer’s cinematography isn’t all that great, while Ben Baudhuin’s Editing makes the film unbearably long sometimes.
