Birbal also referred to as Birbal Trilogy Case 1: Finding Vajramuni is a Kannada language crime thriller with noir elements. It stars MG Srinivas in the lead. The movie opened with decent reviews on January 18th, 2019.
In the year 2000, a gruesome murder takes place. A cab driver is murdered. The police arrest a bartender as suspect and later claim him to be the real culprit.
Eight years later, an intelligent lawyer Mahesh Dass picks the case. He studies it thoroughly and concludes that the bartender is innocent and is wrongly sentenced in the murder case. How he goes about his defence by finding evidence is the core plot of the movie.
It is after Mahesh Dass takes the case that he realizes that it is not as simple as it has been made out. An informer angle is revealed along with a potential cover-up. While the case keeps him busy, there is a personal angle to deal with in the form of Jaanavi (Rukmini Vasanth).
And finally, who is Birbal that the title refers to? And what about Vajramuni, a character that is unveiled as narrative progress. The answers to these questions lay at the end of the narrative. It also acts as a perfect set up for the second part of the trilogy.
MG Srinivas not only acts but also directs the thriller. Saurabh Vaibhav provides music to the movie which is produced by Chandrasekhar.
