Surprisingly, Tamizharasan Pachamuthu’s low-budget Tamil film Lubber Pandhu, which stars Harish Kalyan, has been a box-office success. With cricket as its backdrop, the sports drama has drawn a lot of interest from viewers and made tremendous box office gains.
At the time of writing, the film has collected over Rs 20 crores, and given the overall budget of the film, the gross numbers are exceptional. Even though the film was only released a week and a half ago, it is still incredibly popular in theaters. A large number of people were attending Lubber Pandhu instead of the recently released films, like NTR’s Devara and Karthi’s Meiyazhagan.
Under the direction of rookie Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, Lubber Pandhu starred Attakathi Dinesh and Harish Kalyan in the key parts. Sean Roldan scored the soundtrack for this sports drama film, which was produced by Prince Pictures.
Lubber Pandhu defied a trend by making more money on its second weekend than it did the first. The plot revolves around two renowned cricket players—Gethu (Attakathi Dinesh) and Anbu (Harish Kalyan), who were respectively a batter and a bowler—are the subject of Lubber Pandhu. While the first half largely concentrates on the ego fight between the two cricket players, the second half offers an interesting viewpoint on caste prejudice, what one leaves behind, girl strength, and many other issues.
With its Tamil Nadu total predicted to have been higher if not for the release issues, Lubber Pandhu’s global gross is currently approaching Rs. 30 crore. Bala Saravanan, Kaali Venkat, Devadarshini, Sanjana, and Swasika all play significant roles in the movie. Despite having low theatre occupancy and severe competition, Lubber Pandhu might not stop until the anticipated release of Rajnikanth’s Vettaiyan. Only time will tell till then how the film performs and continues to make new records.
