If there is a chunk of the Indian population that is comparatively more loyal to their languages than the others, it is the South Indian population of the country. While this is an endearing thing to witness, it must surely be disappointing during times when there are barely any good titles either running or upcoming in theatres.
Take for example the case of this month, November. Not only has there been a general lack of viewing options for South Indian moviegoers, a highly anticipated title has also left fans high and dry. Suriya’s ‘Kanguva’, a much awaited Tamil-language action period drama failed to impress audiences and leave a mark.
Only ‘Amaran’, the Tamil-language action drama about the life and death of Major Mukund Varadarajan, had caused quite the box-office ripples. Not only has the film crossed the Rs. 300 Crore mark, it has also become one of the biggest Tamil films of the year.
That being said, there are virtually no anticipated titles upcoming, except for the Malayalam-language drama ‘All We Imagine As Light’. However, even that will only appeal to a certain portion of viewers.
All in all, November’24 has been quite the underwhelming time for South Indian cinema lovers. Hopefully, this will change with the release of the widely awaited ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, in the beginning of December!
