September 27th will be a big day at the box office with Devara Part 1 releasing. A lot has been in talks about the film in recent times and it has gained quite a buzz around it. The cast of the movie contains icons like NTR Jr., Jahnvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, which is sure to bring in audiences to the theatres. With its action filled trailer, the film already has the audience eagerly expecting it.
Meiyazhagan too will be released on the same day. The film stars Karthi in the leading role with Arvind Swamy and Sri Divya. The theatrical trailer for the film has not been released yet but the teaser showcases it to be the story of the relationship between two cousin brothers (Karthi and Arvind). The makers also released a concept trailer where we can see a substantial amount of action featuring Karthi. The plot as of now is unknown.
As Meiyazhagan will be released on 27th September, it will be interesting to see what can be its expectation with Devara releasing the same day. Devara is a big budget and highly anticipated project. It has a potential of even dominating the theatres on a national level, which they will be aiming for (considering their Hindi trailer released so early). Also, the film has a star cast which will appeal to a larger mass throughout the nation. On top of it, the film is filled with action and visually grabbing scenes which often grabs the audiences’ attention.
On the other hand, Devara will be released in Telugu and along with it in Tamil language. Meiyazhagan is originally made in Tamil. This can be a factor which will give the latter an edge over Tamil speaking audiences. Southern movies make the highest business in their original language, followed by Hindi. Other regional languages have negligible attention. This year, this has been true for most of the Southern films. If this becomes true for Devara as well, the Tamil speaking audience who wants to watch a Tamil movie might get inclined towards Meiyazhagan instead of Devara.
Though there are slight chances of the movie making a decent income, one cannot see the prospects of the film making it big. The film, though will not suffer due to Devara’s domination, it doesn’t seem it will be able to earn a great profit as well.
