“Aindham Vedham” has come up with some pretty interesting headlines, especially with its exciting trailer. Directed by L. Nagarajan and produced by Abirami Media Works, the film features Sai Dhansika, Santosh Pratap, and Vivek Rajagopal.
The film is about Anu (Sai Dhansika), who sets out for Varanasi to perform her mother’s last rites. Along her journey, she was given an old relic containing the mysterious Fifth Veda said to unlock. The deeper Anu goes into her mission, the more she is to be trapped in a village full of hidden agendas and growing tensions.
The quality of the trailer goes a fair few miles. It boasts eye-catching visuals and a plot that looks pretty promising. However, one must say that most flicks in this genre promise the moon but rarely have a chance to deliver. Movies like “Tumbbad” have set a very high benchmark for mythological thrillers where traditional myths are well fused into modern storytelling. The big question is whether “Aindham Vedham” will live up to these or surpass them?
The marketing of the film is on point, right from interesting posters to creating an interesting first look and teaser. They have already created a buzz without revealing much and that’s a powerful tease, but the big challenge will be maintaining this momentum.
The public reception for mythological thrillers has not been too brilliant. While there is an appreciation for the originality and execution in “Tumbbad,” others have simply failed to make an impact. With very few very well-made mythological thrillers, “Aindham Vedham” does have a lot to hope for.
Given the few hits in this genre, if Zee5 will market it well, “Aindham Vedham” can grab a space for itself. Effective marketing and good word-of-mouth can certainly boggle its chances of success. From the film’s premise to the production quality it contains, it is indeed a premise good enough to spark much success.
With great writing and a fantastic lead, “Aindham Vedham” has the elements to be a good modern myth thriller. Whether it will be able to catch the audience’s imagination and maintain the quality promised in the trailer remains to be seen. If executed well, it has a strong chance of making a mark in the genre.
