Jiiva’s Tamil thriller ‘Black’ had its theatrucal release on the 11th of October this year. And it has already been released on OTT a few days back. Usually Tamil movies have a eight week window before they are premiered on OTT. ‘Black’ had only a 22 day run and in some places it is still running in theaters.
Black is the remake of the well-known sci-fi thriller Coherence and it did not do very well in theaters, but that does not mean it should not be given its time. For now, it us getting good response on Prime Video. There are many instances where we have seen a movie that became a failure in theaters went on to be pretty good on OTT. But Black is still running in theaters at some places, and it could have been given a second chance.
It looks like there is good chance for the movie to be appreciated by people all over India. It did not happen with the theatrucal release because there were too many big titles at that time.
What Prime Video could do is wait for a bit longer and then promote the film with all efforts. Good promotion can save a film that is suffering because of bad timing. Black was ill timed in release and ill timed in being pulled down from theaters too.
