The Tamil thriller ‘Black’ is now available to stream on OTT. It came out on Amazon Prime Video only today. The movie had its theatrical release on the 11th of October this year and this is a very short window to release the film on OTT. It did not work out very well in theaters and the release went almost unnoticed. But will it do any better on OTT?
The movie stars Tamil actor Jiiva who has given some pretty good hits to the industry. It is written and directed by KG Balasubramani and is an adaptation of the 2013 Hollywood science fiction thriller ‘Coherence’.
We have seen multiple times that when a movie does not do very well in theaters, it does quite good after coming out on OTT. What happened with Lal Singh Chadha can go with Jiiva too. The original movie that it is inspired by is already available on OTT and it is quite a popular one too. And it might have contributed on diluting the intrigue and curiosity around the movie. The thing with thrillers is you need to keep the suspense up.
The movie can still do good on OTT if it is promoted right. But we will have to see whether Prime Video puts much effort on the marketing of a regional licensed film that too of not a very big star. If the execution of the movie is done right, the word-of-mouth will spread and it will work in favour of the movie’s viewership on OTT.
