Do you remember when Thangalaan hit the big screens? Well, let us remind you, that it was on the occasion of Independence Day. The usual OTT window for a Tamil film is only 28 days. Take the case of Vijay’s The Greatest Of All Time. Despite being such a mammoth box office magnet, the movie arrived on OTT before completing even a month on the big screens.
So what’s up with Thangalaan that will soon complete 2 months of theatrical release?
Well, if reports are to be believed then Netflix India and the producers of Thangalaan had a rift recently.
You see, there were strong reports of Thangalaan hitting Netflix India on the 20th of September but it did not happen. The reason?
Poor box office collection by the film. You see, producers tend to demand extra money from the platforms if the films perform well at the box office. Naturally, the vice versa is also true and the platform denies the promised amount when the film fails to perform at the box office.
Since Thangalaan emerged as a flop at the box office, Netflix India is not ready to pay the promised amount to the producers. This has resulted in the makers looking for other options to stream.
