Despite the fact that there is already a shortage of titles to run in theatres, the 4-week release window that most South Indian titles follow, before being released on OTT platforms, not only hampers their growth, but also the businesses of theatres and multiplex chains.
Take for example ‘Hitler’. The Tamil-language action thriller film, which released theatrically on September 27, is already en route to OTT. While a particularly specific release date hasn’t been assigned to it for OTT yet, the title is all set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video soon.
The movie follows a man who moves to Chennai and unfortunately finds himself trapped in the throes of a serious political matter. The man relocates from a remote village in a forest where exploitation of labor and a lack of infrastructure prevail widely. The feature stars Gautham Vasudev Menon, Vijay Antony, as well as Riya Suman in leading roles.
While sure, the movie was not an instant box-office sensation, it was also not a complete bomb either. Not only did it garner its fair share of positive reviews from the viewers, but its performance at the box-office was also satisfactory. Had the film gotten a longer theatrical run, that could’ve been solved too!
