Netflix is set to release its Tamil original Stephen on December 5, and it already feels like one for fans of dark, psychological thrillers. The film follows a quiet, composed man who hides disturbing secrets beneath his calm exterior. Instead of focusing only on violent acts, Stephen tries to peel away the layers of his mind, letting viewers slowly discover who he really is and why he became dangerous in the first place.
Tamil cinema has a strong history of gripping serial-killer stories, and that makes this release even more exciting. Movies like Ratsasan showed how chilling a killer’s intelligence can be, while Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu explored how obsession shapes both the hunter and the hunted. Stephen seems to take a different path by stepping closer to the killer’s personal world instead of just his crimes. It wants you to notice his vulnerability, not just his violence, which makes the danger feel more human and unsettling. This also reminds us of the brilliant film Raman Raghav 2.0 which did something similar.
The film stars Gomathi Shankar, who also co-wrote the story. Alongside him are Michael Thangadurai and Smruthi Venkat, with production by JM Production House. With Netflix backing it and a fresh approach to the genre, Stephen could be the next thriller that keeps audiences thinking long after the mystery is solved. Get ready to meet a killer who doesn’t just shock you but gets under your skin.
