The upcoming Tamil movie will be Directly coming to OTT. The movie will stream on Netflix and the release date will be announced soon. Even ‘Indian 3’ will have a direct to OTT release.
‘Test’ stars R. Madhavan, Nayanthara and Siddharth in leading roles and there is no reason to think of it as a small-budget film. It has some big stars in the movie and will probably be a big sports drama. But why is the film releasing on Netflix instead of theaters?
Previously, small-budget films were going the OTT way because they were not finding good distributors easily and it was tough for them to compete against the monopoly of studio films at the box office. But currently big movies too are choosing to be released on OTT too and it has some pros and cons for itself. For ‘Indian 3’ it is easily understandable that the makers did not want to take a risk after the underwhelming performance of ‘Indian 2’. But there was no need to do the same for ‘Test’. It has three well-known actors who are trusted by audiences and the movie could have worked out well at the box office if it were promoted well.
The bigger films choosing to be released on OTT, while some small-budget films like ‘Stree 2’ break box office records is a great thing for the business but is also concerning for some producers.
