No doubt about the fact that Devara is a Telugu film and the core audience lies in the Telugu-speaking regions. However, the massive success of RRR has given Jr NTR much needed exposure in the North. More importantly, Jahnvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan are associated with the film and are very recognisable faces among the Hindi speaking audiences.
Also, Karan Johar is one of the producers who is supposed to look after the theatrical distribution of the movie in the North. He is a highly capable man for this job if the film is good. Just try to remember how he distributed Baahubali 2. No doubt the way Baahubali performed in the North also owes something to Johar.
Sounds pretty optimistic?
But things are not as hopeful. Let’s take the two most important locations in the North; Delhi and Mumbai.
The theatres were added for pre-booking literally after 9 PM and the number of theatres running the show was in single digits with both the prime locations combined.
It is very very surprising as the advance bookings were opened later in the North and still there was severe scarcity of screens for a long long time.
For a film of Devara’s magnitude, it is very surprising.
However, the problem has been fixed and people are now able to see a lot of screens running Devara. The buzz in North is nowhere near Stree 2 but looks like it will finally be replaced entirely. Just one hour added more than 29K tickets to the movie and things are looking highly promising for Devara.
Everything depends on word of mouth now and let’s wait to see how it is.
