“Devara” is a movie that has been in the news for quite some time. Jr. NTR hasn’t done any films since “RRR”, and now that he’s back, expectations are sky-high, especially in the Telugu market. With the addition of Saif Ali Khan as the antagonist, the film is also set for a pan-India release. However, there’s a minor issue that raises concerns about its performance in the Telugu market.
While it’s difficult to predict its fate after release, one thing is certain: it’s going to have a bumper opening in the southern market. However, the concern is that Telugu movies often struggle to sustain their success in the long run. A recent example is “Kalki 2898”, which initially dominated the Telugu market but only reached beyond ₹1000 crore thanks to the Hindi-dubbed version.
In the case of “Devara”, there is already some concern about its lukewarm reception in the Hindi belt, which raises questions about its potential success there. There is a two-month gap in the Telugu region between “Devara” and the next major release, the highly anticipated “Pushpa 2”. Two months for a single release like “Devara” may be too long, and this window could be utilized for other smaller films.
In the Hindi belt, we have seen a similar gap between releases, which was used by theaters to re-release old classics, turning it into a successful experiment. Recently, reports suggest that the famous cult classic “Sivaji: The Boss” will be re-released in theaters. Do you think the Telugu market should also use this gap to re-release other old classics?
