Devara Part 1 was one of the most anticipated projects of this year and the movie’s reception before its release, totally justified the hype around it. The film created the record of being the film with second highest grossing advanced ticket bookings. The film was supposed to make a 100 crores+ opening in the box office. The film although went on to accumulate a net collection of 70 crores on its day 1, the collection in Hindi language was quite low.
The film could only pull off about 7.5 crores from Hindi release on day 1, about 8.75 crores on day 2, 10.25 crores on day 3 and only 3.75 crores on day 4. Among these the second and third days were Saturday and Sunday. In total, the film could only earn a total collection of 30.25 crores on the first four days from its Hindi release. This accounts for only 15% of the film’s total collection.
This is a surprising thing to see considering the fact that the film had two actors from the mainstream Bollywood playing the two most prominent roles after the lead actor. Both the actors Saif Ali Khan and Jahnvi Kapoor are quite relevant in Bollywood as of now, hence, they had the capacity to gather a good number of audiences. Also, the reception of the film’s trailer and songs in Hindi were quite good.
Probably the problem lied on the makers’ strategy for the North. The mode of advanced ticket booking was opened pretty late for the northerners, hence the tickets sold were low for the first day. The bad marketing strategy for the film in the North affected the ticket sales significantly. Also, the film can be said to have not withstood the hype which was created around it.
Overall, though the film is on the verge of becoming a big success and is consistently pacing forth to collect more and more, still the film’s performance in Hindi can not be called satisfactory. With two big stars from Bollywood and a good reception by the audience prior to its release, the film still cannot make a good collection despite the huge potential audience.
