It is not everyday that a film becomes a worldwide sensation, especially with only its advanced bookings. Even without the latter, it is a considerable feat to achieve. Such has been the case for the widely appreciated Koratala Siva directorial ‘Devara: Part One’.
Having caused ripples of anticipation across the entire world with its pre-bookings, the film, unsurprisingly, debuted to whopping box-office numbers. So much so, that in just a matter of 16 days since its release, the film has grossed the Rs. 500 Crore worldwide milestone and is still running strong in theatres. Which is to say, considering its Rs. 300 Crore budget, the film has long since broken even.
Usually, South Indian films adapt a 4-week theatrical run strategy, before they either make their way directly to OTT platforms, or make fans wait for a little longer. This has also been observed with the mega-star-led ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ and Vijay’s most recent project ‘G.O.A.T’.
The same could have been adopted by ‘Devara’, but considering that the film is continuing to draw above average numbers across its theatrical venues, it doesn’t seem like the smartest thing to do. Sure, its roaring success seems to have mellowed down, but the film is not only trending on social media still, but is in fact, inching closer towards bigger global milestones.
With the 4-week benchmark nearing, one can only hope that an OTT release date isn’t announced for the film just yet.
