As per the latest announcement from Mythri Movie Makers, the production house behind ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, there will be an extended version of the film running in cinemas from January 11th, 2025.
This so called reloaded version will have a 20 minute additional footage that will play in cinemas just before the Pongal or Sankranthi holidays.
There were rumours about an extended version landing in theatres before Christmas but at that point there was no official word but now there is.
The makers had also previously clarified that ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ wouldn’t land on any OTT before completing 56 days of it’s theatrical run and since that is inching closer, this new “reloaded” thing seems to be like going that last extra mile to crunch in as many box office numbers as possible.
And what would be a better time than a festive weekend slot!
But at the same time this move feels kind of a desperate and greedy effort. Given the film’s popularity, the audience is anyhow trying to get a glimpse of it in theatres and this extended version is just unnecessary.
Moreover, ‘Pushpa 2’ already has a long runtime of 200 minutes, making it one of the longest Indian films ever made, why add more just to create a hype. Or the makers are afraid it’s dying down and want to create a new buzz around it, you never know. (or maybe you do now!)
