Seven years ago, on 12 July 2018, a small-budget Telugu film stormed into theatres and left everyone stunned. RX 100, a romantic action thriller, defied expectations, becoming a sensational hit and a cult movie. Despite its A-rating, the film’s raw emotions, fearless narrative, and an unforgettable revelation made it a box-office juggernaut, proving that content is king.
Made on a modest budget of Rs 2 crore under Kartikeya Creative Works banner, RX 100 shattered expectations by grossing Rs 25-30 crore theatrical bizz with 50 days run across 26 theaters. What made this success even more remarkable was that both its lead actor Kartikeya, and director Ajay Bhupathi were debutants.
The film’s impact was so strong that it was remade in Hindi as Tadap, in Odia as Premo Na Pagalopana, in Kannada as Shiva 143. In Tamil, its remake was announced with Aadi Pinishetty but didn’t happen.
This craze for remakes and the widespread adaptation among various languages along with Telugu is proof of the film’s universal appeal.
One of the film’s biggest strengths was its unpredictable storyline, particularly the twist involving Payal’s character. The raw, unfiltered emotions and the realistic portrayal of love, betrayal, and revenge left audiences stunned. Unlike conventional love stories, RX 100 dared to explore a darker theme.
