The teaser for Varun Tej’s retro action drama ‘Matka’ is here and this one’s a big massy action entertainer which looks a little routine. Helmed by Karuna Kumar (Palasa 1978’, ‘Sridevi Soda Center’), ‘Matka’ is a pan Indian film and will release in theatres in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam on 14th November, 2024.
The teaser kick starts with highlighting the glaring reality of the economic inequality in our country and how it was even graver during the 60s and 70s. And amidst all this rises a young man through struggles and makes his way up the chain to become the top person when it comes to money, fame and power but not without getting involved with the world of crime.
There’s a lot of style and flair in Varun Tej’s massy screen presence and his high octane action sequences in the teaser. His transformation look good as he grows up from a young boy to an old, experienced man who knows it all and has it all.
The teaser has an impactful background score that adds to the massy vibe and the whole feel of the teaser has been kept vintage, raw and brutal signifying the film’s core theme. Also, the teaser gives little glimpses of other characters from the film.
It cannot be ignored though that we have seen such crime based action dramas before where someone makes his way to the apex while having through multiple struggles. At least from the teaser it looks pretty routine and lacks that newness one might look for in a big budget project like this. Just grand sets and action scenes do not make it up.
Based on Matka gambling scams that rocked the country in the 20th century, ‘Matka’ is set in between 1958 and 1982 and follows the story of the mastermind behind these scams.
Written and directed by Karuna Kumar, ‘Matka’ stars Varun Tej Konidela, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Nota Fatehi, Naveen Chandra, Kishore Kumar G., Ajay Ghosh, Vijaya Ramaraju and Roopalakshmi among others.
A G.V. Prakash Kumar musical, ‘Matka’ has cinematographer by A Kishore Kumar and editing by Karthika Srinivas R. The film is produced by Dr. Vijender Reddy Teegala and Rajani Talluri. A Vyra Entertainment and ART Entertainments production, ‘Matka’ will make way to theatres in 14th November, 2024 and that means clashing with Suriya and Bobby Deol’s highly awaited ‘Kanguva’.
