The amazing psychological thriller C.D (Criminal or Devil), which has already created a stir in theatres, is now aiming for digital release on 26th October. This psychological thriller in Telugu, written by Krishna Annam, is expected to receive a lot more views on over-the-top (OTT) platforms. However, does it have the ability to run the show?
The story of C.D (Criminal or Devil) revolves around Siddhu, played by Viswant Duddumpudi. Siddhu’s life took a turn after watching the film ‘Devil’ which raises a series of mysterious events and kidnaps, shocking his city. Frightened and perplexed, he continues his journey through the confrontation with supernatural elements that test his sanity.
Adah Sharma essayed the character of Raksha, a psycho killer with a scintillating presence that added depth to the narrative. Her performance has been well talked about for instilling fear and predictability. Supporting roles played by Mahesh Vitta and Bharani Shankar round out the cast and lend complexity and engagement to the storyline of the movie.
The most critical aspect of C.D. to do well on OTT would be when it learns to perfectly balance its comedy, suspense, and horror elements. Such elements will each play a unique function in developing the story but have to blend them together for a coherent and dramatic storyline. While comedy can act as a relief from the tension, must come at the right time and is very apt to the situation. Suspense should build progressively, and then there must be scenes that keep the audience on tenterhooks without slowing down the pace. Horror aspects need to be really shocking to really portray a good psychological thriller without clichés.
As the film is now available to a larger and more varied audience via digital platforms. The movie is now available to anyone who was unable to see it when it was released in theaters. If the film meets the genre’s standards, more people may eventually become fans as a result of increased accessibility.
With this C.D (Criminal or Devil) has a golden opportunity through its digital release. By relating well-crafted characters and a balanced narrative, the film is outstanding in the already crowded realms of psychological thrillers. If it can strike all the right notes, it can match well with the audience.
