Varun Tej’s ‘Matka’ had haughty hopes before its theatrical release earlier this month but unfortunately the film could not meet expectations. Now that ‘Matka’ is set to premiere on Prime Video on 5th December, 2024 in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam will it find the audience it was looking for?
Based o “Matka” gambler Ratan Khetri, the film is a period action thriller drama wherein a man rises through ranks of the criminal world and becomes a key player in a massive nationwide gambling scam that rocked the country in the 20th century.
Despite delivering a promising trailer and having a potential plot, ‘Matka’ could not impress viewers and critics because of it’s weak and cliched writing. Though Varun Tej received appreciation for his performance in the film, it mostly felt uninspired to the critics.
Now that ‘Matka’ is set to come to OTT, the hopes have risen once again but it certainly will be difficult. That’s because it’s a massy film that supposed to work more in theatres and since it could not do that it won’t be a cake walk for it to work on OTT.
On the other hand, nothing can be ascertained with surety, it will be interesting to see how the audience receives ‘Matka’ when it lands on Prime Video on 5th December, 2024.
