The Only Star Keeping Kapil’s Netflix Show Alive

The Only Star Keeping Kapil’s Netflix Show Alive

When it was announced that Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover were reuniting for The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix, it felt like the prodigal son had returned. For many, the original show’s golden era ended the moment Sunil’s unforgettable characters, from Gutthi to Dr. Mashoor Gulati, walked off the stage. Seven years later, Netflix, with all its marketing might, promised a new chapter. The reality, however, has been a little less… magical.

The latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show once again proves that Sunil Grover, without a shadow of a doubt, is the real heart of the show. His acts are genuinely funny, and he is the only talent truly worth watching.

In the newest episode, Grover stole the show as Fulljar Sahab, a brilliant and hilarious spoof of the legendary poet-lyricist Gulzar. He wasn’t just doing an impression; he captured the very soul of Gulzar’s poetic, soft-spoken persona, all while delivering jokes that landed with a perfectly timed, witty thud. The audience, the guests, and even the host himself were floored. So were the online viewers.

Since the show’s debut on Netflix, it has had some standout moments despite its recycled format, the same one Kapil Sharma has been relying on since 2013 (yes, the good old Colors days!). And most of those great moments come down to one man: Sunil Grover.

Apart from Fulljar Sahab, his other characters, such as Dhafli, Engineer Chumbbak Mittal, and his Salman Khan spoof, are not only the show’s brightest aspects but also play a vital role in keeping the show alive on Netflix.

It’s been well over 12 years now, and Kapil Sharma’s brand of humour has become somewhat predictable and stale. While he still leans on the same old gags, it’s his comrades, particularly Sunil Grover, who inject fresh, outstanding energy into the stage, almost as if they’re the ones trying hardest to justify the millions Netflix spent to bring the gang back together.

It’s a testament to Grover’s talent that even after all these years and a bitter public fallout, he remains the one audiences can’t get enough of. He’s the reason many still tune in, patiently waiting for that one moment when he appears and elevates the entire episode. While the show’s ratings have recently dipped and its global Netflix ranking has fallen, Sunil Grover continues to deliver the kind of performances that keep audiences captivated. Stay tuned for more updates.
