Comedy is an intriguing genre. Perhaps, one of the most difficult to deliver within and maintain your status as a prolific name in. The reason: jokes fizzle out and the audience seem to get over repetitive ones very easily. The same is being observed with respect to ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’.
With Season 1 having been aired back in March 2024, the show generated quite the online buzz initially as it marked the return of an acclaimed comedian, Kapil Sharma, back on TV. Coupled along with his quirky cast members, the show delivered based off of their comedic antics.
However, while the first season clocked in comparatively good viewing numbers with reportedly around an average of 2.5 Lakh views, the sequel season has failed to do so. The numbers have dipped by nearly 50%, resulting in only around 1.2 Lakh views for Season 2. This can be considered a direct consequence of static jokes that the audience just don’t find funny anymore.
Granted, only one episode of the new season has aired, starring Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar, Vedang Raina, and Vasan Bala as the guest stars. While the guest lineup of the first season saw celebrities from various spheres like music, cinema and sports, with the rare international feature, that might just have been the reason for its viewing statistics.
Which is to say, to stay afloat, the show might just need to call a diverse range of personalities!
