Drishyam 2 (2021)- Prime Video

Drishyam 2 is a direct sequel to the equally brilliant Drishyam that follows the story of a normal family and what they go through when a mishap befalls their lives. With praiseworthy performances from Mohanlal and exceptional direction from Jeethu Joseph, the sequel was even better than the first one. A direct OTT release, the film was a huge hit for Prime Video.

Oppam (2016)- Disney+ Hotstar

The plot follows Jayaraman (Mohanlal), a blind lift operator and caretaker in an apartment building. The trusted friend of Justice Krishnamoorthy (Venu), he cares for his schoolgirl daughter Nandini (Meenakshi). Krishnamoorthy is murdered by a serial killer with a connection to his past. Jayaraman is framed for the crime and must protect Nandini from the killer and prove his innocence.

Memories (2013) – Disney+ Hotstar

Sam Alex (Prithviraj), a police officer, resorts to alcohol to ease the pain of his family’s death. However, his life turns around when he is called to investigate a series of murders showing a similar pattern. The film received cult status and is regarded as one of the best crime thrillers in Mollywood, where it was remade in Tamil in 2016 as Aarathu Sinam.

Grandmaster (2012) – Netflix

An IPS officer, Chandrasekhar (Mohanlal), faces an uphill task when an anonymous man sends him a challenging note. As time passes, he overcomes the trauma of a failed marriage while investigating the case. Also starring Priyamani, the film is a cat and mouse game executed brilliantly. The movie is based on the book The A.B.C Murders by Agatha Christie.

Vettah (2016) – JioCinema

Two police officers (Manju Warrier and Indrajith Sukumaran) take it upon themselves to investigate the case of a missing actress. They must deal with the criminal (Kunchako Boban)who, despite having admitted to the crime, refuses to reveal anything. One of the most underrated movies ever made in India, this movie’s climax will leave you speechless.

Mumbai Police (2013) – Disney+ Hotstar

ACP Antony Moses (Prithviraj) has managed to track down his friend’s killer when he meets with an accident resulting in partial memory loss. Soon, he is reassigned to investigate the murder and find the culprit. The film got Kerala State Film Award for Best Screenplay and Prithviraj’s performance was regarded as one of his career-best performances.

Anjaam Paathira (2020) – JioCinema

The plot follows a squad of police sleuths assisted by a consultant criminologist, Anwar Hussain (Kunchako Boban), as they attempt to unveil the identity of a faceless killer who employs brutal tactics to slay his victims. The film was dubbed in Telugu as Midnight Murders and released on the OTT platform Aha. A sequel is in development.

Joji (2021) – Prime Video

Joji (Fahadh Faasil), an engineering dropout and the youngest son of a rich family lives with his aspirations of becoming super wealthy. Driven by greed and blind ambition, he decides to execute his plans following an unexpected event in the family. Released during the pandemic directly on OTT, the film was heaped with praises for Fahadh’s performance. The story is inspired by William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth.

Joesph (2018) – Prime Video

The story develops through the life of four retired policemen. It has the tone of a thriller investigation. An issue affecting the life of Joseph (Joju George), the central character, and his family is being investigated. One of the best medical thrillers out there, this movie was a career-defining role for the lead actor. Joju won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Character Actor and also won Special Mention in the National Awards.

7th Day (2014) – Disney+ Hotstar

When two friends run into David( Prithviraj), an IPS official, they reveal an unfortunate event that changed their lives. David helps them get out of the mess but he is not what he claims to be. The film also features Tovino Thomas, Anu Mohan, Vinay Forrt, Yog Japee, Janani Iyer, and Praveen Prem in substantial roles.
