The highly anticipated Spanish crime drama series ‘Money Heist‘ dropped the first half of its fifth and final season on Netflix and it was everything we have been waiting for. The drama, the dialogue, the gunfight, the thrills and the cliffhangers have all been brilliant so far – but the best part was the added depth to two main characters, Berlin and Tokyo, on the show through the addition of two new characters, Rene and Raphael. Still, like always, the show has managed to bring back its regular callbacks – ranging from its regular football references to its bringing back of dead characters through flashbacks. However, let’s take a look at 4 callbacks you guys missed while checking out these 5 episodes:
Maserati
No reason for anyone to actually forget it, but Rio calling Tokyo a Maserati is a callback to when Denver called Tokyo the same when he was talking to Rio about him breaking up with Tokyo. One time mention, still worth remembering.
Tokyo’s Origins
While we get a deeper look into Tokyo’s origins in this season, many of us had forgotten that Tokyo only joined Professor’s heist after she lost her lover and she had nothing left to lose. This was always an unaddressed plot point in our opinion, especially since the very first episode of ‘Money Heist‘, so this callback to her life before meeting the gang os quite cool.
Tatiana (and Raphael)
We know in the first season that Berlin will be divorced before the “Mint of Spain job” – which means either he leaves Tatiana, or she leaves him. The flashbacks in this first half of the final season has us believing that Berlin’s estranged son, Raphael, will have something to do with that.
Stockholm’s Drug Use
While taking one shot of morphine needn’t be classified as drug use, it is a small callback to Denver’s earlier drug use in the first season. A little ironic – how the wife is high in the job, while the husband has decided to grow up and quit doing foolish things like doing drugs.
Check out the first four seasons and the first half of the fifth (and final) season of ‘Money Heist’ on Netflix now.
The second half of the final season will drop on December 3rd 2021.
