Mammootty‘s latest political thriller ‘One‘ released today (27th April 2021) on Netflix. This will be Mammootty’s second film to move to an OTT platform, one month after its release in theatres in the post-Covid lockdown era. ‘One’ released in theatres last month on 26th March 2021, but due to the rise in Covid cases (causing people to stay at home), Netflix scooped up the film for streaming. So before you watch it, here are 4 things you need to know about the film before you watch it:
Political drama
‘One’ follows Mammootty as Kadakkal Chandran, who is the Chief Minister of Kerala. The movie is said to be an idealistic version of a CM facing corruption around him, but the film has earned praise for some of its accurate depictions. The inner workings of a political party, the mindset of an elected minister and the media circus that follows the elected government’s every move has been precise so far.
Multi-star Cast
Besides Mammootty, this film has a huge cast of actors playing various roles within the film, even as cameos. The cast includes Murali Gopy, Siddique, Joju George, Nimisha Sajayan, Gayatri Arun, Shanker Ramakrishnan, Ishaani Krishna, Salim Kumar and Jagadish.
Critical and Audience Response
The film didn’t reach the financial heights it could have had due to the pandemic. Still, the movie did make a reasonable amount of profit and critics lauded the strong acting within the film as well as commending the casting choice for the movie as well.
Screenwriting duo
No film can start without a script (although exceptions have happened) and this film’s script was written by the screenwriting duo, Bobby and Sanjay. This film marks their 15th film to make it to the silver screen. Known for writing the scripts for brilliant films such as ‘Traffic’ and ‘Notebook’, this brother screenwriting duo was part of the new generation of Malayalam artists who brought about a change within the Malayalam film industry (post-2010 – 2011). ‘One’ has been known for its plot as well.
