“5 Must Watch Ekta Kapoor Produced Films on Her Birthday”

Ekta Kapoor, the prolific television and film producer and daughter of veteran actor Jeetendra, has turned 46 today. She is popularly referred to as the ‘Czarina of television’. And there is a solid reason for the well-deserved title.

The immensely talented Padma Shri Award-winner has produced over 130 soap operas under the Balaji brand. 1. Udta Punjab (Streaming on Netflix)

The dark-comedy crime film follows parallel storylines of a rock star (Shahid Kapoor), a labour (Alia Bhatt), a doctor (Kareena Kapoor), and a cop (Diljit Dosanjh). Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, ‘Udta Punjab’ portrays their journey and how they deal with the drug problem while living in the State of Punjab.

2. Lootera (Streaming on MX Player)

It’s a beautifully made period drama helmed by the gifted filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane. The film is based on O. Henry’s short story ‘The Last Leaf’.

The story follows a conman (played by Ranveer Singh) posing as an archaeologist, who falls in love with a Zamindar’s daughter (played by Sonakshi Sinha). ‘Lootera’ was also the feature film debut of the talented actor Vikrant Massey.

3. Shor in the City (Streaming on MX Player)

Helmed by the celebrated filmmaker duo Raj & DK, ‘Shor in the City’ revolves around multiple characters living in Mumbai city. The film features Tushar Kapoor, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Radhika Apte, Nikhil Dwivedi, Preeti Desai, Sundeep Kishan, and Pitobash in prominent roles.

Raj & DK had earlier stated that their super hit web series ‘The Family Man’ was closely based on ‘Shor in the City’ in some respects. Another good reason to not miss watching the film.

4. Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (Streaming on MX Player)

Directed by Milan Luthria, the stylishly executed gangster flick, set in the 1970s Mumbai, is believed to be loosely based on the real-life rivalry between two underworld gangsters. Led by Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi, the film also featured Kangana Ranaut, Prachi Desai and Randeep Hooda in prominent roles.

5. LSD (Streaming on MX Player)

This was Dibakar Banerjee’s second directorial film after the critically acclaimed ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla!’. The unique film narrated three different but interlinked stories through a video camcorder, a security camera, and a concealed camera, respectively.

The film featured a talented cast including Rajkummar Rao, Amit Sial, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Anshuman Jha and Neha Chauhan, amongst others. The film’s sequel is also in the making.

Some other mention-worthy films produced by Ekta Kapoor are ‘The Dirty Picture’, ‘Ek Villain’, ‘Dream Girl’, ‘Shaadi Ke Side Effects’, and ‘Pagglait’, amongst others.
