Today, 8th June is celebrated as the Best Friends Day. On this occasion, we have compiled a list of five must-watch Indian films that showcased the beautiful bond of friendship in an inventive way. We have tried to include a blend of blockbuster and relatively underrated post-2k movies for the list. So, here we go.
RRR
Helmed by S.S Rajamouli, the period action movie ‘RRR’ features Ram Charan and Jr.NTR in the lead roles and Ajay Devgn, and Alia Bhatt in pivotal roles. The film is a fictional tale set in the 1920s that revolves around two legendary Indian revolutionaries namely Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by Jr. NTR).
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na
Directed by Abbas Tyrewala, the film’s story revolves around two best friends – the mild-mannered Jai (Imran Khan) and the bold and vivacious Aditi (Genelia D’Souza). While searching for the right person for each other, will the two fall in love or remain friends? The movie also featured Prateik Babbar, Manjari Fadnnis, Rajat Kapoor, Ratna Pathak Shah, Naseeruddin Shah, Sohail Khan, and Arbza Khan, amongst others.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Zoya Akhtar’s road drama features Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, and Farhan Akhtar as three childhood friends Arjun, Kabir, and Imran, who decide to reunite for a three-week long adventurous road trip in Spain. During the life-changing vacation, they make an attempt to face their worst fears and that changes their outlook towards life.
Kai Po Che
Abhishek Kapoor’s on-screen adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s novel ‘The 3 Mistakes of My Life’, ‘Kai Po Che’ (which means ‘I have cut’ in Gujarati) narrates the story of these three friends who set out to open a sports shop and a sports academy amidst the backdrop of harrowing events. Although it’s a film with cricket being an important plot point, the movie is essentially an endearing story of three friends (brilliantly played by Sushant Singh Rajput along with Rajkumar Rao and Amit Sadh).
Dil Chahta Hai
The cult rom-com film was Farhan Akhtar’s directorial debut and follows the story of three disparate yet inseparable friends Akash (Aamir Khan), Sameer (Saif Ali Khan), and Siddharth (Akshaye Khanna). The plot takes a turn when they fall in love and how it creates some misunderstandings and tensions amongst them. The movie also featured Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni, and Dimple Kapadia in pivotal roles.
