Gifted actor Fahadh Faasil essayed the role of a Kerala-based software engineer in this gripping computer screen thriller, a sub-genre that gained recognition with the Hollywood movie ‘Searching’. He played the role of a cyber security expert who, in a race against time, uses his skills to help his cousin brother (Roshan Mathew) find his mysterious lover who suddenly goes missing.
6. Malik
Helmed by ‘C U Soon’ director Mahesh Narayanan, ‘Malik’ is a political thriller that features Fahadh Faasil in the role of a revolutionary leader and local strongman named Sulaiman based in the coastal town of Ramadapally. Narrated in a non-linear format, the film recounts the eventful life story of Sulaiman when his nephew is given the task of eliminating him while in prison within just fourteen days.
5. Drishyam 2
‘Drishyam 2’ was helmed by Jeethu Joseph and featured veteran actor Mohanlal in the lead role. The sequel film is set six years after the events of ‘Drishyam’. Georgekutty’s family is still living under the fear of the impending consequences of the police investigation for the senior cop’s missing son. When the investigation comes back again to haunt his family, how the protagonist tries to deal with the situation to protect his family, forms the film’s plot.
4. Sarpatta Parambarai
It’s a brilliantly executed period boxing drama set in North Madras during the 1970s period. The film features Arya in the role of an underdog boxer Kabilan who gets a golden opportunity to redeem himself and his Sarpatta Parambarai clan by winning a boxing match against the rival Idiyappa Parambarai clan and defeating their reigning champ Vembuli.
3. Sardar Udham
Shoojit Sircar’s historical drama ‘Sardar Udham’ starring Vicky Kaushal in the titular role is based on the life of the Indian revolutionary Udham Singh, who had assassinated former lieutenant governor of Punjab Michael O’Dwyer in London. The assassination was done to avenge the mass killings of many Indians at the barbaric Jallianwala Bagh massacre that happened on 13th April 1919 in Amritsar.

The film revolves around the incredible journey of a former Indian Air Force captain Maara (played by Suriya) and his unwavering efforts to achieve his virtually impossible dream of starting a low-cost carrier airline. The movie’s underlying premise was ostensibly somewhat inspired by a book called ‘Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey’ which described the awe-inspiring life story of Simplifly Deccan founder G. R. Gopinath.
1. Jai Bhim
Directed by T. J. Gnanavel, ‘Jai Bhim’ is an intense courtroom investigative drama that starts off with the story of a man from a primitive tribal community who is accused of stealing from an affluent house. Thereafter, he is taken into police custody and eventually goes missing. The man’s pregnant wife takes the help of an upright High Court advocate Chandru (Suriya) to find her missing husband. How the lawyer fights for the justice of the tribal couple, forms the rest of the film’s plot.
