7 Nail-Biting Horror Movies on Indian OTT

Horror is our guilty pleasure. We may get scared by it but that is what makes us love the genre. Some argue that the genre is kind of dead in the Indian market but that is wrong to say. Because the Indian audience still loves to watch movies of that genre. But, the only difference is, the Indian audience has kind of shifted to American films for those eerie feelings.

And that is pretty obvious, given that Bollywood has not evolved its horror genre from the past 2 decades. They are still using those door creaking sounds alongside the upside-down walk with gross sounds. But, thanks to the OTT platform where some horror movies are still getting celebrated. So, we will talk about such 7 horror movies that you would love to watch and get afraid of.

7. 1922 (2017)- Netflix

All of us are aware of the fact that Stephen King is the king of horror when it comes to writing books. His books have a style that captivates their readers into their pages. And when the readers get trapped Stephen knows how to pull the emotional triggers that will make us feel exactly what he wanted to. Several of his books are adapted into movies and 1922 is just one of them. This brutal story revolves around a man, his family and his obsession with ancestral land. There are some raw violent scenes so you need to know about them before watching.

6. Train to Busan (2016)- Netflix

This Korean film is one of the most popular movies of the horror genre. Based on zombie apocalypse this makes us feel about a situation in which we were exposed to zombies in real. But the most important thing, this is not just a horror movie. There is a very emotional side of a father-daughter relationship that further elevates the story.

5. Pari Not a Fairy Tale (2018)- Prime Video
Gone are the days when ghosts were just bloodthirsty evil forces and things like that. Nowadays a Chudail can also be someone’s girlfriend. This is exactly what we see in this movie starring Anushka Sharma and Parambrata Chatterjee. This film went underappreciated by the public because it was not so horrible. But the contrast of the film and overall innovation that we saw in Bollywood was something praiseworthy.

4. IT (2017)- Prime Video
Again based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name this film is a cult classic. The infamous character of Pennywise reappears to torture and feed on seven children. This is a very popular film of the horror genre but we must not forget the contribution of the book in the same. Make sure that children should not watch this film.

3. Insidious– Netflix
This four-chapter series focuses on a woman that can contact the dead. Being one of the most populous horror series in the world it brings down a chill in the spine every time one watches it. The eerie background music adds to the horror visuals and makes us feel doubtful about our surroundings.

2. Bulbull (2020)- Netflix
The magnificent sets, brilliant cinematography, highly natural acting and overall newness in this genre made this film so great. Although it is a fairy tale it is about an extremely dangerous fairy who kills men who oppress women. Set in colonial India, it is an extremely worthy watch and will not fail to satisfy you.

1. Tumbbad (2018)- Prime Video
Though it is anything but a conventional horror movie, it still scares us. If you haven’t watched this masterpiece then mind you, you would never have seen such a film at least in Bollywood. This film is known to have one of the most brilliant cinematography ever. The background score, Irrfan Khan’s haunting narration, eerie background score and completely new kind of story makes it so great. Revolving around greed and lust, this film shows us how low a human can go. To sum up, this is not the film you should miss.
