Upcoming film ‘83‘ is one of the most awaited films to hit theatres post pandemic. India’s historic Cricket World Cup win in 1983 is a story that’s been waiting to be told for years. It’s quite a surprising thing that it took almost 40 years for our filmmakers to get down to the task. But now 83 is ready and gearing up for release in theatres this Friday, 24th December.
In a happy development for the film, the Delhi government has declared that 83 will be completely tax-free in Delhi. Kabir Khan took to his Instagram handle to share the news, and to thank Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia for making 83 tax-free in Delhi. The move by the Delhi government is a good one from two points. The waiver of tax on tickets for 83 will make the film cheaper to watch for the common public, leading to higher footfall. Consequently, more people will watch the film in theatres, and get to savour the moment when India reached the pinnacle of cricketing glory.
Secondly, the move will definitely help in reviving the cinema-going habit in people, many of who have still not mustered up the courage to step into cinema halls to watch a film post-lockdown. Covid-19 fears and easy convenience of OTT entertainment have contributed to diminishing footfalls in theaters.
In our opinion, more state governments should take a leaf out of the Delhi government’s magnanimous gesture and make ’83’ tax-free in their states. Bold moves are vital to bring audiences back to theatres in the country. What better way than to offer cinema tickets at cheaper rates!
83 stars Ranveer Singh, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Boman Irani, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Pankaj Tripathi, Jatin Sarna, Sahil Khattar, Jiiva, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Dhairya Karwa, R Badree, among others. Deepika Padukone has a cameo in the film.
’83 is directed by Kabir Khan, and produced by Reliance Entertainment, Phantom Films and Kabir Khan Films. 83 will hit theatres on December 24 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, and in 3D too
