We have all grown up watching TV, got hooked to TV, probably at times even skipped our naps and watched TV. I am sure we have all received nice scolding from our parents for watching TV but now the scene is completely reversed. Yes, TV was a big craze at a point in all our lives but, right now in today’s era TV, the channels and the contents are not what this generation wants or needs to see. The OTT has taken over our lives and we are thoroughly enjoying that without any guilt.
Many say, it costs you a lot of money, but that’s true in the case of TV too. We pay money for the connections and what not and if we see, for a certain amount of money we pay for the OTT subscriptions we have an entire world of content that is accessible to us, without any hassle. Also being an Indian, in this case, gives us a bonus point, because the streaming platforms know how big a market this is for them and hence they have put forward really affordable and easy plans for us to get into the world of OTT.
The change from TV to OTT started to evolve when TV stopped offering us content that was relatable. It started a fashion of work that just was overdone romance, too much VFX and unnecessary dragging of plotlines. OTT was the complete opposite and that attracted people more and more. We had so many genres to choose from that it seemed like a wonderland for all of us.
Another factor that pulled audiences from TV to OTT was when our favourite actors started showing up in different web series. That just sealed the deal for many of us. Their brilliant acting, the script, and the amazing plotlines, everything did justice to what seemed like the emergence of the era of OTT. We can associate many of our favourite actors more with their characters that they have done for the OTT at this point of time now. We know it’s a lie when people say that they didn’t like Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Sacred Games, or Manoj Tiwari in The Family Man, Ayushmann Khurrana in Andhadhun or Radhika Apte in literally anything and everything for that matter.
This seems like just the beginning, with 2020 being a remarkable year for OTT we can finally see a point where we feel like things are going good from the entertainment point of view.
