The regional digital space is heating up like never before. OTT players are falling over themselves to garner maximum eyeballs in regional streaming, with compelling content in desi Indian languages.
Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Alt Balaji and ZEE5 are already pros at producing and disseminating quality content in languages such as Tamil, Telugu and Bengali. The latest player to make a foray into the regional arena is MX Player, with its flagship Tamil web series, titled, Queen.
Ramya Krishnan, who was catapulted to cult status with her portrayal of the indomitable Sivagami in the Bahubali franchise, will essay the titular role. The narrative delves into the life and times of J Jayalalitha, a political stalwart who displayed both benevolence and an iron will while holding sway over the adoring public.
The series will also be released in Hindi, Telugu and Bengali, to capture the imagination of multiple categories of audiences.
The series has been written by Reshma Ghatala (Filmfare Awardee for Thanga Meengal) and directed by Prasath Murugesan (Kidaari) and Gautham Vasudev Menon (National Awards winner for Vaaranam Aayiram and Thanga Meengal).
