Creator of British black comedy television series ‘After Life’ – Ricky Gervais recently posted a photograph of himself along with a document titled ‘After Life – Series 3. Day 1 Slides. Monday 19th April 2021’ on his social media account.
The post gave us an inkling that the filming of the third season of the series will commence on Monday, April 19, 2021 onwards. In the post, Gervais had also written the words “I’d better learn my lines.”
A Netflix Original, the show’s opening season (2019) saw Gervais playing a widower journalist, whose life takes a U-turn following the death of his wife and how it dramatically affects his personality and behavior towards others. It was followed by another season in 2020.
Both the seasons received mostly positive reviews from critics and were appreciated by the audience. The much anticipated third season will reportedly be the final season of the series.
Gervais has a track record of usually ending his shows after the second or third seasons. So, following the trend and his earlier statement, most probably there won’t be a season four for ‘After Life’.
When Netflix had, almost a year back, announced the show’s return for a third season, Ricky Gervais had subsequently stated in his trademark humorous style that because so many people watched ‘After Life’ season two so quickly and made it number one again, consequently, Netflix has suggested that I do another season and further jokingly said that this was all our fault.
It is noteworthy that Gervais is currently in the course of a multi-year first-look deal with the online streaming platform Netflix. So, Gervais will likely continue his collaboration with the streaming giant, with a fresh project, after the third season of ‘After Life’ wraps up.
The UK born filmmaker Ricky Gervais is known for writing, directing, and acting in the British television sitcom ‘The Office’, where he co-starred alongside ‘Cargo’ actor Martin Freeman. Gervais is the winner of the coveted Golden Globe, Primetime Emmy, and BAFTA awards.
The first two seasons of ‘After Life’ can be streamed on Netflix. Although the exact release date for the show is not yet officially confirmed, however, we can expect a possible release at the year’s end or early 2022.
