Just a few days back, we had made our readers aware of S.S. Rajamouli’s period actioner ‘RRR’ starring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan making its way to the coveted IMDb top-rated Indian movies list. The only film from 2022 besides ‘RRR’ that achieved the feat was the Malayalam drama film ‘Hridayam’.
And in an exciting update, another movie from the year 2022 has entered the IMDb top 250 Indian movies list. And the film’s name is ‘Pawankhind’. Currently, the movie holds an impressive IMDb rating of 9.5/10 based on more than 5400 votes.
‘Pawankhind’, which was earlier titled ‘Jungjauhar’, is a critically acclaimed Marathi language historical drama movie that focuses on the life of the legendary Maratha warrior Baji Prabu Deshpande, who was the commander of the Maratha empire’s founder – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Directed by Digpal Lanjekar, the film’s plot revolves around the story of the courageous Maratha warriors at the Battle of Pavan Khind, a rear-guard last stand that happened in the year 1660 at a mountain pass near Vishalgad fort in Maharashtra.
In the battle, Baji Prabu Deshpande bravely faced the formidable Adilshahi army, led by Siddi Masud, with 300 soldiers in an undaunted effort that enabled Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj to escape from the trapped Panhala fort.
In the film with a runtime of around 2.5 hours, Ajay Purkar has essayed the role of Baji Prabu Deshpande, Chinmay Mandlekar played the role of Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj while Mrinal Kulkarni has stepped into the shoes of Shivaji’s mother Rajmata Jijabai.
Regarding the film’s OTT availability, after its theatrical release on 18th February 2022, ‘Pawankhind’ later started streaming on the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform.
