After weeks of speculation about the theatrical release date of Ajith Kumar’s ‘Thunivu’, we now have the official release date of the film. The Tamil film will hit theatres on the auspicious occasion of Pongal 2023. In doing so, Ajith Kumar’s film will set up a direct clash with Thalapathy Vijay’s equally keenly awaited film, ‘Varisu’.
Producer Boney Kapoor took to his social media handles to announce the release date of ‘Thunivu’. He also revealed that his production company Bayview Projects has tied up with Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies for the Tamil Nadu distribution of ‘Thunivu’.

‘Thunivu’ is an action thriller, written and directed by H Vinoth. He had also directed Ajith Kumar’s previous film, ‘Valimai. ‘Thunivu’ stars Ajith Kumar, along with Manju Warrier, Samuthirakani, GM Sundar and John Kokken in pivotal roles. Ghibran has composed the music for the film.
As per reports in the media, ‘Thunivu’ is based on the 1987 bank robbery in Punjab, India’s biggest daytime robbery ever. The film will showcase Ajith Kumar’s skills on the motorbike, as well as high octane action stunts.
