Ajith Kumar’s ‘Thunivu‘ which was earlier named AK61 is all set to release during 2023 Pongal. Meanwhile, Thalapathy Vijay’s much anticipated next movie ‘Varisu‘ is also slated to release during Pongal. Netflix has bagged the streaming rights for Thunivu which is being eagerly waited for by a huge fandom.
Thunivu is directed by H. Vinoth who has previously directed movies like Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru and also Valimai, Nerkonda Paarvai with Ajith as the lead.
Varisu on the other hand is directed by Vamshi Paidipally and stars Thalapathy Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna. The shooting will most probably be wrapped by October 27. There are rumours that he will soon announce his next ‘Thalapathy 67’ too.
Ajith and Vijay are the two of the biggest stars of the Tamil film industry and there has always been a secret conflict between the fanbases of both stars. The two stalwarts clashed during Pongal in 2014 too, when Ajith Kumar came up with his ‘Veeram’ directed by Siruthai Siva and Vijay was releasing ‘Jilla’ directed by Nelson. Both the films did a good business in the theatres as they were feelgood family dramas.
Vijay and Ajith don’t usually have theatrical releases at the same time, but when they do it is quite an event for Tamil filmbuffs. The two actors have clashed multiple times. With Pokiri and Aalwar in 2007, Bhagavathi and Villain in 2007, Friends and Dheena in 2001, Kushi and Unnai Kodu Ennai Tharuven in 2000.
Both the movies Varisu and Thunivu have created a buzz in the social media and Tamil movies are doing great in the theatres nowadays. Taking the huge fanbase of both the stars into consideration, it can be said that the clash hopefully won’t affect the business of the films in a negative way.
