Akwaeke Emezi is an amazing author and has been rolling out novels that are best selling ones, one after the other. Amazon Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society have joined hands once again to bring the amazing writer on board for a brand new project.
In a recent auction, Amazon Studios won the rights to Emezi’s novel titled “You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty”. The book is scheduled to be released in 2022 and to be published by Simon and Schuster’s Atria. Yes, the book has now already signed the deal with a studio even before it is launched.
The auction for the rights of the book show many studios and filmmakers making offers in huge numbers. But apparently it is being said that it was Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo that went on till the end. The auction is even being said to be one of the most expensive book deals for the year. The project will be executively produced by Emezi too.
The story of the novel follows a young Nigerian woman in New York. Her happy life turns upside down when her husband is killed in an accident and she is left all alone to deal with the grief. She finds solace in her art, which she had huge plans for before. Things change when she meets a new guy and starts falling for him. Her life seems to get in track as she meets a major art curator who is ready to launch her art career. Even when she feels she found everything back, the grief she has had doesn’t leave her side and she is pulled back down once again.
This is not the first book by Emezi that is being brought to life. Their debut novel, “Freshwater” has been brought over by FX for a YA series titled “Pet”. All their 3 previous books have all ended up becoming huge bestsellers. Emezi’s next is a memoir of theirs titled “Dear Senthuram”, which is a much anticipated book to be released on June 8.
At the moment, the deal between the writer and the studios has not mentioned as to whether the book will be turned into a movie or an Amazon original series.
