Amazon Prime Video Aims For K.G.F: Chapter 2 After Master’s Success!

Amazon Prime Video Aims For K.G.F: Chapter 2 After Master’s Success!

Thalapathy Vijay’s Master dropped last night on Amazon Prime Video, just 15 days after its theatrical release. The multi-starrer feature has been one of the biggest films that dropped this year, with multiple sources placing it in the top 5 highest grossing films of 2021 (Rankings vary from list-to-list), as of now. With Amazon Prime Video successfully getting the streaming rights for Master this quickly after its theatrical release, we expect the OTT giant to target the big whale, possibly the biggest Kannada (possibly Indian) movie releasing this year – K.G.F: Chapter 2.

Master is a significant movie to pull into OTTs and Amazon Prime Video’s successful acquisition of the movie should be commended. Master has multiple stars in the film – Vijay Sethupathy, Malavika Mohanan, Andrea Jeremiah to mention a few but the lead portrayed by Superstar “Thalapathy” Vijay, is in a class of his own, especially in Tamil films. Vijay’s theatrical releases never fail to bring in hoards of cinema lovers and Master is no exception. Being able to bring in a Superstar featuring (Tamil) film into a streaming platform from theaters this quickly is no mean feat, but being able to do so when it is still raking in the money is brilliance displayed by Amazon Prime Video. We don’t expect the OTT giant to be sitting on “this laurel”, instead they will be targeting the next biggest feature film – the aforementioned K.G.F: Chapter 2.

K.G.F: Chapter 1 is currently streaming in five languages in Amazon Prime Video. We expect the streaming giant to aim for the second part of the two-part series, due to its pan-Indian presence and blockbuster appeal. The first part was the highest grossing Kannada film (by a huge margin), and the second part will see all its major stars like Yash, Srinidhi Shetty, Ananth Nag and Achyuth Kumar returning with Raveena Tandon and Bollywood juggernaut Sanjay Dutt joining them.

Now, we don’t expect Amazon Prime Video to get the same deal as Master – with already multiple cinema owners protesting the sudden shift of the still-earning blockbuster to the streaming platform, but we expect the film to join the streaming service after a shorter period than the usual “75-90 days”; probably as quickly as one month. With the series of fluctuating news results we get regarding the Covid-19 related numbers, deaths or cures, most films will probably not be staying in theaters – at least not as long as it did pre-Covid era. K.G.F: Chapter 2 will probably be not like any other film, but it will likely move to streaming platforms quickly still. For now, we will just have to wait and see.

Sanjay Dutt said that the release date for K.G.F: Chapter 2 will be announced today (29th January 2021) at 6:32 pm. Follow us on twitter or here, on our website for follow up information.

Master and K.G.F: Chapter 1 is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video in multiple languages.
