The other six movies are –
Shakuntala Devi – starring Vidya Balan, it is a biopic on the mathematical genius Shakuntala Devi. No release date has been announced for the premiere of this movie yet.
Ponmagal Vandhal – one of the first movies to skip a theatrical release and choose to premiere on Amazon Prime Video instead. The Jyothika starrer, produced by Suriya, releases on Amazon Prime Video on 29th May.
Penguin – starring Keerthy Suresh, and produced by Karthik Subbaraj, Penguin will release in Tamil and Telugu on Amazon Prime Video on 19th June.
Law – Starring Ragini Chandran and produced by Puneeth Rajkumar’s home production banner, PRK productions, it is a Kannada woman-oriented movie, written and directed by Raghu Samarth. It will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 26th June.
French Biryani – Starring comedian Danish Sait, it is a Kannada movie produced by Puneeth Rajkumar. The dramedy premieres on Amazon Prime Video on 24th July.
Sufiyum Sujatayum – the Malayalam movie starring Jayasurya and Aditi Rao Hydari will premiere on Amazon Prime Video, with the premiere date yet to be announced.
The news was announced on Amazon Prime Video’s social media handles, and it immediately created a huge amount of buzz in trade and industry circles, not to say, among social media users. Amazon country head Amit Agarwal tweeted the news too. “First day, first show. We’re premiering 7 highly anticipated Indian movies of this year on Prime Video,” he said.
Needless to say, Amazon Prime Video’s announcement has shaken up the world of OTT entertainment, as well as theatres.
