Netflix’s The White Tiger has featured in a plethora of global nominations now and another feather has been added to this cap as it has made it to the Top 5 list for best-adapted screenplay at the WGA Awards.
The White Tiger was a surprise inclusion and just goes to show that Indian content has been taking leaps and bounds especially with the boom of the OTT space in India. To think that this movie may not have been created on this scale without the help of Netflix is something that we cannot even fathom right now.
The White Tiger finds itself in an illustrious list with Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, News of the World, and One Night in Miami as the other nominations for best-adapted screenplay.
All of this is testimony to the fact that The White Tiger on Netflix has been winning rave reviews not only in India but from all across the globe. Adarsh Gourav has been the other standout from this title as he was also nominated for the best male lead for the 2021 Spirit awards. The fact that Adarsh Gourav was a standout performer in a cast that consisted of stalwarts like Mahesh Manjrekar, Rajkumar Rao, and Priyanka Chopra itself is a big thing but being on a nominations list along with the likes of Riz Ahmed and Chadwick Boseman is another feat in itself.
The screenplay for The White Tiger was created by Ramin Bahrani who is also the director of the film. The screenplay has been adapted from Aravind Adiga’s book ‘The White Tiger’.
It takes us on the journey through the underbelly of India and shows us both ends of the spectrum with the rich living in their 5-star hotels and the poor finding it difficult to afford three meals. Its raw and unfiltered approach makes this film even more engrossing.
