Oscar got over and like every year, this year too we got a bunch of films winning and breaking records. One of those winning movies is Danish dramedy “Another Round”. The movie has been a favourite ever since it was released and Hollywood was eyeing to get their hands on it even before they were announced as the winners during the 93rd Academy Awards.
Now, the news is up that Another Round’s English language remake has been acquired in and after a fierce bidding war. The remake rights have been acquired by Leonardo DiCaprio production house Appian Way. The auction also included Jake Gyllenhal’s Nine Stories as well as Elizabeth Banks for acquiring the rights.
It is being said that DiCaprio might be playing the lead in the movie remake, which was earlier played by Mads Mikkelsen in the original. Endeavour Content and Makeready are financing the film. Along with all the biggies of Hollywood, Thomas Vinterberg, the director and co-writer for the original will be executive producing the movie. This time around, he won’t be directing or writing the movie. As of now, the remake makers are looking for a writer to be onboard the project.
It has actually been a wish for Vinterberg to see DiCaprio in the lead role that Mads Mikkelsen played. The movie is about the stories of 4 high school friends, who are all now teachers and are going through a midlife crisis. The men take a decision of getting drunk to raise their blood alcohol levels and see how that affects and hampers their daily lives.
The movie was made with European drinking standards in mind; it would be interesting to see how things go around when it is made into the American remake. The original movie shows “celebration of life” through alcohol. It shows the good and bad of getting addicted to drinking and this is what makes this movie a beautiful piece.
The winning moment in Oscars has been recorded as one of the most emotional moments of the evening. As Vinterberg’s daughter Ida who was supposed to play the lead’s daughter, got into an accident and was killed, just four days into the shoot of the movie. Thomas Vinterberg dedicated the awards to her calling it “her moment”.
