Streaming service Apple TV+ has revealed the date of premiere and released a gripping trailer for its first Korean series titled ‘Dr. Brain’. Written, directed, and executive produced by eminent South Korean filmmaker Kim Jee-woon (A Tale of Two Sisters, I Saw the Devil), the forthcoming series ‘Dr. Brain’ is based on the popular Korean webtoon of the same name by Hongjacga and will premiere globally on 4th November 2021 on Apple TV+ OTT platform.
‘Dr. Brain’ is a sci-fi thriller series, ostensibly with supernatural elements, that revolves around a genius brain scientist named Sewon (played by Lee Sun-kyun of Parasite fame) who suffers from a terrible personal tragedy when his family becomes the victim of a mysterious accident. Thereafter, the gifted titular scientist goes to extraordinary lengths to unearth the mystery by performing ‘brain syncs’ with dead people, in order to get clues by accessing their memories.
‘Dr. Brain’ is set in a six-episode format and while the series’ opening episode will premiere on 4th November, the remaining five episodes will subsequently be released on Apple TV+ on a weekly basis until its finale on 10th December 2021. Besides Lee Sun-kyun, the series also stars Lee You-young, Park Hee-soon, Seo Ji-hye, and Lee Jae-won in important roles.
The premiere of Apple TV+ first Korean language series ‘Dr. Brain’ will also coincide with the launch of the popular streaming service in South Korea. Armed with an intriguing premise and an exciting creative collaboration between Kim Jee-woon and Lee Sun-kyun, the chances of Apple TV+ series ‘Dr. Brain’ striking a chord with global OTT audiences is quite high. Especially considering their penchant for Korean titles and the phenomenal success of Korean content including ‘Parasite’, ‘Squid Game’ and ‘My Name’, to name a few.
