If you loved Zack Snyder’s ‘Army of the Dead’ but were left wondering where the characters came from, then ‘Army of Thieves’ might partially solve the mystery for you. This prequel film, set six years before ‘Army of the Dead’, is coming globally to Netflix this fall.
In the recently released teaser it’s seen that ‘Army of Thieves’ follows the sensational back story of Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighofer), the German safe opener, who played an important yet lesser focused part in ‘Army of the Dead’.
When the zombie outbreak had just begun in America, Dieter who is in his early days of safecracking, gets recruited by a mystery woman (Nathalie Emmanuel) who had been observing him for long. The woman plans on taking advantage of the distraction caused due to the outbreak.
Ludwig who isn’t much aware of what he is getting into gets attracted by the fact that it’s an opportunity of a lifetime for him and that it will turn his life from ordinary to something less ordinary. What follows is a sequence of events filled with action, adventure, romance, thrill and a lot more.
Matthias Schweighofer has directed, produced and stars in ‘Army Of Thieves’ with a screenplay from Shay Hatten who has co-written the original story with Zack Snyder.
Other than Schweighofer, the romantic comedy heist film stars Nathalie Emmanuel (‘Game of Thrones’), Guz Khan (‘Man Like Mobeen’), Ruby O. Fee (‘The Invisibles’), Stuart Martin (‘Babylon’, ‘Jamestown’), Jonathan Cohen (‘Budapest’), Noemei Nakai and Peter Simonischek (‘Toni Erdmann’).
Produced by Schweighöfer, Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller and Dan Maag, ‘Army of Thieves’ is the story of a small town bank teller Ludwig Dieter who gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol’s most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.
While ‘Army of Thieves’ focuses on one character from ‘Army of the Dead’, Netflix has also planned an anime-style prequel series for the film that will tell the background of other major characters and their relationships. Dave Bautista, Ana de la Reguera, Ella Purnell, Tig Notaro and Omari Hardwick will be reprising their roles for the series.
If you thought that was it for ‘Army of the Dead’ franchise then you must know that Zack Snyder has solid plans for a sequel on which he will focus after he is done with his next film ‘Rebel Moon’.
