One of Indian cinema’s most highly anticipated films ‘Brahmastra: Part One Shiva’ was finally released in theatres last Friday on 9th September. Ayan Mukerji’s massively mounted venture is also one of the most expensive Indian films ever made and features an ensemble cast that includes Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna, Mouni Roy, and Shah Rukh Khan (in a cameo), amongst others.
‘Brahmastra’ received a fantastic opening at the box office during the weekend. All eyes will now be on the box office figures in the coming days and how soon the film will be able to cross the breakeven point, considering its massive budget. And one thing that seems to be helping ‘Brahmastra’ on that front is the box-office performance from the US regions and other countries.
As per a reputed website, ‘Brahmastra: Part One Shiva’ has collected around $4.5 million at the American box office and on Monday itself, the film registered over $295k in the US. The film has now purportedly breached the Rs.250 crore benchmark at the box office worldwide. As of now, ‘Brahmastra’ is only outranked by Zach Cregger’s positively reviewed horror flick ‘Barbarian’, which released on the same day as ‘Brahmastra’ in US theatres. ‘Barbarian’ has grossed over $10 million at the US box office and over $12 million globally.
As per the latest update, a ‘Brahmastra’ sequel titled ‘Brahmastra: Part Two – Dev’ is being planned for a theatrical release in December 2025. Moreover, the makers are also considering a spin-off film which will be based on Shah Rukh Khan’s Vanarastra yielding character in the first film.
